Tara Communications Wins Pepperpot Award
Philadelphia — Tara Communications LLC received one of the top honors at yesterday's 35th Annual Pepperpot & Achievement Awards in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America presented Rick Alcantara, the firm's founder and principal, with the prestigious Pepperpot Award for his team's Limited-Budget campaign celebrating PRSA's 50th Anniversary.
The year-long celebration, which included a branding campaign, special events, web site features, and declaration of November 6 as "Media Day" by the Mayor of Philadelphia, honored PRSA's half-century of accomplishments. Alcantara's team conducted the campaign for under $700.
The campaign recognized member achievements, honored the service of former chapter presidents, informed members and prospects about the chapter's history and future direction, and celebrated 50 years of communication leadership in Philadelphia.
The judges from the Harrisburg chapter of PRSA selected the 50th anniversary campaign for recognition from among 147 entries submitted in 25 categories.
The campaign highlights included:
- Declaration of November 6 as "Media Day" by Philadelphia Mayor John Street
- Luncheon event featuring PRSA's COO and Executive Director Catherine A. Bolton
- Kick-off birthday party complete with balloons and a cake
- Reception honoring 22 of the chapter's past presidents
- Display of "Happy Anniversary PRSA" in 60-foot letters on PECO Energy's crown lights display
- Creation of a 50 Reasons to Join PRSA Philadelphia list
Alcantara received his first Pepperpot Award in 2001 for an Intranet campaign conducted on behalf of AstraZeneca.
